Learning Outcome #5 & 6
My writing usually has a lot of sentence-level errors and grammar issues. I often write a lot at once and my brain goes so quickly that my fingers cannot keep up with the ideas in my head so I make many mistakes. I am also not a great speller so that tends to be the case for some mistakes. Frequently my first draft is riddled with errors like missing punctuation, misspelled words, run-on sentences, and grammar mistakes. The first draft of my second project had a lot of sentence-level mistakes that I had not seen before because I had not yet proofread my essay at all. After meeting with the writing fellow and my peer review group who pointed out some important mistakes I was able to change for my final draft. Even after proofreading my essay for a final time, there were still some mistakes in my final draft that I did not even realize until listening to the comments from Professor Miller. He emphasized my need for commas and other grammatical aids to help with my sentence structure. My sentences were very choppy and did not flow like they should without the commas.
MLA format has been something that I have been working on for a while but I still make some mistakes with it. I am usually pretty good about in-text citations and never really have a problem remembering to add them to my quotations. However, sometimes I struggled with the works cited page of my essays. I did not realize it before I submitted my essay but I had indented the sources in my works cited page which is not supposed to happen and Professor Miller commented on that for me. He also gave me some instructions on my title and headings which I did not know either. I was able to use this instruction on my last project which I think helped the format of my essay.
